Business Bank of Texas congratulates Dave Sather on receiving the Texas Lutheran University Distinguished Service Award
Dave Sather, a member of the Business Bank of Texas Board of Directors, was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award from Texas Lutheran University Board of Regents. Dave was recognized for his dedication to the university’s business administration department through his service on the Business Executive Advisory Council and through his innovative Bulldog Investment Company program that provides a unique real-world learning experience for many TLU students.
This award is given to TLU alumni who have established an outstanding record for themselves. This includes professional, personal and civic achievements. A maximum of two awards are given each year. Dave received the award at the Homecoming “TLU Salutes” banquet.
While some of the top MBA programs around the nation have student investment funds, very few are instated at small schools, the size of Texas Lutheran. In 2008, Dave who is a TLU alumnus and president of Sather Financial Group, Inc., started Bulldog Investment Company (BIC), as an “in-house” internship for TLU students to gain real world experience managing investment funds under the guidance of Sather.
“The mission of the Bulldog Investment Company is to provide students with a real-world opportunity to study how Warren Buffett identifies successful businesses and how they function both quantitatively and qualitatively. It requires logic and discipline in assessing fundamental analysis, cash flow, debt, etc. Once you know what defines a highly successful company you can then find investments that do a very good job of satisfying those requirements. “So it’s truly just fundamental analysis when it comes to crunching numbers,” Sather said.
An example of the real-world experiences for the students, Bulldog Investment Company is hosting an evening with Donald Yacktman at TLU this month. The event will provide the unique opportunity for students to meet and learn from one of the industry’s leading experts. Don was named Morningstar’s domestic fund manager of the year for 2010 and is the founder of The Yacktman Funds—which manages more than $9 Billion. Don will be speaking on value investing.
One thing is certain; Dave Sather is committed to the financial education of both students and the Central Texas community. Business Bank of Texas congratulates and supports Dave’s outstanding contributions.
